Pitch Competition Entry Rules, Deadlines and Details

Are you a college student with an innovative AI idea for the health sector? Get ready to make waves at the Noblis AI Open House Event.

Register for the AI Pitch Competition for a chance to present your idea to industry experts. If chosen, you will present your innovative AI ideas and solutions for the health sector in a compelling 5-minute pitch. We’re calling all university student teams to step up and showcase their creative AI ideas that could reshape health equity, responsible AI and more. Seize this opportunity to be at the forefront of AI-driven healthcare transformation, and maybe win a prize while you’re at it!

Pitch Competition Entry Rules and Deadlines:

  • You must complete the registration form on this page by October 15, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. EST to be considered.
  • All entries must be related to innovation in health or health equity.
  • A maximum of eight (8) teams will be selected for the competition, with slots given on a first-come, first-serve basis and based on adherence to the competition rules and deadlines.
  • Teams can consist of 1 to 3 members.
  • All participants must be students currently enrolled at a college/university, but members on a team do not need to be from the same university. Former Noblis employees (including past interns) are eligible to compete, but current Noblis employees (full-time or part-time) are ineligible.
  • The answers provided through the registration form will be reviewed by the judging panel prior to the competition at the Noblis AI Open House.
  • After submitting the form, look out for an email from the Noblis event team with confirmation of your registration and additional information about next steps.
  • Two weeks prior to the competition, the Noblis event team will send an email to the eight teams requesting any multimedia presentation content that will be used during the pitch.
    • All multimedia must be submitted by October 18, 2023, so it can be reviewed and prepped for the event by the Noblis team. Failure to meet this deadline could result in issues with using your presentation and multimedia on the date of the event.

Competition Details and Format:

  • Student participants may present their pitches by attending the AI Open House in person or virtually through Webex video conferencing.
    • Webex meeting information and instructions will be sent via email to participating team members closer to the event date.
  • Each team will be given a strict eight minutes in front of the judging panel. We will provide notice at the 2-minute remaining mark and once the alarm sounds, we will cut the presentation.
    • One minute for setup (if there are hands-on materials/visuals)
    • Five minutes to pitch the idea
    • Two minutes of Q&A

Competition Judging Criteria:

  • The judges are particularly interested in ideas focusing upon health equity and responsible AI in healthcare.
  • We will judge each project by rating it on each of the following criteria using a scale of 1 to 5:
    • Viability (is it viable as a future product/service?)
    • Feasibility (is it likely this can be accomplished?)
    • Desirability (is it desirable to agencies or within the industry?)
    • Creativity (how innovative is the idea?)
    • Clarity and Thoroughness (how thought out is the idea and how well was it communicated?)
    • The three teams with the highest averages across these areas will earn prizes.

    • Prizes will be in the form of e-gift cards sent after the event. Amounts shown below will be split among all members of the team:
      First Place: $500, Second Place: $250, Third Place: $100

Tips on Building Your Pitch:

Consider the following questions (based on the Heilmeier Catechism) as you develop your pitch:

  • What are you trying to do? Articulate your objectives using absolutely no jargon.
  • How is it done today, and what are the limits of current practice?
  • What’s new in your approach and why do you think it will be successful?
  • Who cares? If you are successful, what difference will it make?
  • What are the risks and the payoffs?
  • How much will it cost? How long will it take?
  • What are the benchmarks to check for success?
  • To ensure equitable access for all people, how will cost, accessibility and user experience be addressed?
  • How might this program be misperceived or misused and how can this be prevented?
