Spotlight: Noblis Salutes its Employee Veterans

Noblis honors all veterans, reservists, and active duty service members this Veteran’s Day

We are proud to spotlight two of our employees in honor of Veteran’s Day and Military Family Appreciation Month—Neil Gensler and Ellsworth S. Browne, Jr. (Brownie).

Neil is a Noblis NSP employee supporting the Department of Homeland Security. He is currently an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves, and has served for over 28 years.

Brownie is a Noblis ESI employee supporting the National Reconnaissance Office. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sargent after 27 years of service.

Read the spotlights below to learn more about Neil and Brownie’s honorable service. The leadership skills, sense of duty, and commitment our 200 veteran employees bring to Noblis is invaluable—and we’re proud to spotlight their service.

Neil:

Neil entered the Army in 1988 as an enlisted soldier on active duty, working in military intelligence. In 1992, he received an ROTC scholarship, and commissioned into the Army Reserves in 1996. Today, he still serves in the Reserves, supporting the European Command J2 (Intelligence).

Since joining the Army, Neil has developed a strong sense of duty, and shared that the strongest memory he has from the military was the day he heard Iraq invaded Kuwait on the radio.

“My roommate and I looked at each other [after hearing the news], and I remember time standing still, as we agreed that the world as we knew it was about to change,” said Neil. “Through Desert Shield, Desert Storm, the Gulf War, the War on Terror – everything ties back to that one moment, and that one seemingly inconsequential statement on the radio.”

Neil continues to help protect our homeland in his role at Noblis NSP, as he supports the Department of Homeland Security’s Advanced Analytics effort.

Said Neil, “I think my views on duty and commitment match well with the Noblis environment.”

Brownie:

Brownie Brown photoBrownie served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years. He recalls that travelling and receiving an education were what inspired him to join the military.

“To the credit of the DoD, I was able to accomplish both. I’ve traveled to over 18 different countries around the world. I earned an Associate’s Degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Studies, and a Master’s Degree in Technology Management, said Brownie of his service.”

Brownie was highly recognized for his service. Among other decorations, he received the Legion of Merit Award, the Meritorious Service Metal with 3-oak leaf clusters, the Outstanding Unit Award with Valor and 4-oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Recognition Ribbon.

“On September 11, 2001 I was stationed at Prince Sultan Air Base Saudi Arabia, 7-hours ahead of Eastern Standard time,” said Brownie about a memorable time during his service. “Suddenly the base security level rose to ThreatCON Delta and MOP-Level (Chemical Warfare) I. Then I saw CNN news and could not believe my eyes…both World Trade Centers on fire. My heart sank to the floor…it was surreal.”

Like Neil, Brownie continues to protect our homeland through his role at Noblis ESI. He supports the National Reconnaissance Office, providing program acquisition and execution SETA Support to their Mission Integration Directorate.

Said Brownie, “My service to the USAF provided me an outstanding education and worldwide experiences that have provided unlimited employment opportunities within the federal government.”
